Most Indian mothers will know what Katlu is! For those people who don’t know what it is here comes the science bit. Katlu (batrisu) powder is packed with nutrition and goodness and is a mix of 32 perfectly blended of traditional Ayurvedic herbs and other spice, mixed in optimum quantity brings all types of vitamins, proteins and other nutrients in a single spoon. Each ingredient has its benefit in its own way. Fenugreek seeds are great to help prevent and ease back and joint pain. The turmeric is an anti inflammatory and helps heal the body from trauma and injury. Dry ginger offers health benefits, including anti-inflammation effects. Gaund (or Gond) is an edible gum resin that is extracted from the bark of the tree. Gaund provides heat to our body and is usually eaten in cold winter months. Almonds and Pistachios are important source of protein, fats, and minerals. They are rich source of energy with many health benefits. I won’t list the 32 ingredients however you can see its a great recovery food especially for those who are recovering from an illness such as COVID 19.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 packet salted butter
  • 500gms dark brown sugar
  • Few strands of saffron
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp soda bi carb
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1tbsp cardamom powder
  • 1tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 bowl ginger powder
  • 1 bowl katlu powder
  • 5 tbsps fennel powder
  • 1/2 bowl suwa powder
  • 1 bowl gund powder
  • 1 bowl badam/Kaju roughly grinded
  • 1 bowl desiccated coconut
  • 2 bowls wheat flour
  • 500ml double cream. You can use 1 bowl milk

Instructions

  1. Whisk butter, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon powder, cardamom powder and pepper powder until is fluffy and creamy.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients apart from the cream and mix with your hands
  3. Add cream or milk then mix well.
  4. Now make small cookie dough balls and place them in baking tray and bake them in gas mark 5 or 160 degrees for 17-20 mins.
  5. Once they are completely cool store them in air tight container.
